SELF-POWERED AIR QUALITY MONITORING

Transforming air quality with self-powered monitors – breathe easy, live smart.

"PavanaChitra: Reflecting Sustainability Through the Mooring Mirror of Theyyam"

Combining the Sanskrit words "Pavana", meaning air, and "Chitra", meaning art, "PavanaChitra" represents cutting-edge sustainable indoor air quality monitoring technology with our cultural heritage.

This one-of-a-kind installation, PavanaChitra, embodies a powerful fusion of science, technology, tradition, and art. It presents an off-grid, self-powered indoor air quality monitor powered by indigenous indoor solar cells developed by CSIR-NIIST, crafted from locally available materials and designed to mimic the natural process of photosynthesis. These solar cells harness indoor light to power the custom-designed, energy-efficient indoor air quality unit integrated with an e-paper display, making it sustainable and energy-efficient.

The installation uniquely integrates the traditional art form of Theyyam, a vibrant folklore ritual of Kerala, which symbolizes the connection between man and the divine, specially hand-crafted in wood. The Mooring Mirror in Theyyam reflects this profound relationship, and here, it serves as a symbolic reflection of humanity's responsibility towards the environment. Through this artistic expression, the installation conveys the critical need to address climate change and adopt sustainable practices.

At its core, PavanaChitra highlights the often-overlooked issue of indoor air quality, which can be more harmful than outdoor air. By embedding this vital message within the captivating and sacred visual language of Theyyam, the installation calls for urgent awareness and action. It is a testament to how traditional wisdom and modern innovation can come together to offer impactful solutions for a greener future.

Incorporating art and cutting-edge technology, PavanaChitra is a scientific innovation and a cultural statement. It invites people to reflect on their role in protecting the environment and urges us to preserve our native artistic traditions. We are confident that this unique confluence of disciplines will be an iconic representation of climate-conscious innovation and inspire similar sustainable initiatives nationwide.
